EFCC nabs 37 Yahoo Boys in Warri Owerri as suspected ringleader escapes

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Port Harcourt Zonal Directorate, has apprehended thirty-seven suspected internet fraudsters (Yahoo Boys) in coordinated operations across Warri, Delta State, and Owerri, Imo State.

The arrests, carried out on Friday, September 19, 2025, followed what the commission described as “credible intelligence” linking the suspects to internet and cryptocurrency scams.

In a statement released on Saturday, the EFCC revealed that the suspects were caught using various internet-enabled devices to allegedly swindle unsuspecting victims.

“Suspected kingpin of the fraudsters, Robert Chukwuedo on Commissioner Street, Warri, took to his heels to evade arrest. However, some of his accomplices were arrested in his mansion. They were all allegedly involved in cryptocurrency scam, money laundering and other internet-related crimes,” the statement said.

Among the items seized during the raids were luxury cars, smartphones, laptops, and fetish objects.

The anti-graft agency added that the suspects will be charged to court.
