 Barau Jibrin awards scholarship to 1 000 Kano students

The Deputy President of the Senate, Barau Jibrin,on Saturday awarded full scholarships worth over N800 million to 1,000 students of Kano State origin.

The scholarship is to cover the full expenses of the students for their various four-year degree programmes.

The beneficiaries will pursue their various degree programmes at the Federal University,Dutsin-Ma, Katsina State,at the intitution’s various Study Centres set up in Kano State.

The scholarship Award letters were presented to the beneficiaries by Senator Abdul Rahman Kawu Sumaila,who represented the Deputy President of the Senate at a ceremony held at the Convocation Arena of the Bayero University,Kano(BUK).

He said the initiative was meant to address the financial challenges being faced by the students while pursuing their educational development.

”The initiative reflects my conviction that a nation can only secure its future when its young people are educated and empowered.This gesture, is therefore,aimed at eradicating illiteracy and guaranteeing a brighter tomorrow for our country.

”We will continue to invest in the education of our youths because it is the surest way to national development,” Senator Jibrin said.

He urged the beneficiaries to study hard so as to justify the scholarship awards.

Senator Sumaila in his personal capacity gave N20,000 to each of the students as transport fare back to their respective destinations.

In his remarks,Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, Alhaji Yusuf Abdullahi Ata, praised President Bola Tinubu for assisting and supporting the election of Senator Barau Jibrin as the Deputy President of the Senate.

The President’s gesture, Ata said, enabled Senator Jibrin to bring many development infrastructure to Kano State and the Northwest sub-region, including the Northwest Development Commission(NWDC).

He said the lawmaker had also been implementating empowerment programmes, especially for the youths,as well as granting scholarship to students to enable them pursue various courses in the nation’s higher institutions of learning.

The Minister commended the Scholarship Award initiative which he said would immensely assist the beneficiaries in pursuing their respective educational careers.
