The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has narrated how joint security operatives rescued Nafiu Idris, an employee of the Department of Urban Affairs under the FCT Administration, after he was abducted by gunmen in Karu.

Commissioner of Police, Adewale Ajao, told journalists at the command headquarters in Abuja on Friday that a distress call was received around 10:23 p.m. on September 17, 2025, following the abduction.

According to him, a combined team of the command’s Anti-Kidnap Unit, military personnel, hunters, vigilantes, and operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) launched an operation in Nasarawa forest, which borders the FCT, leading to the successful rescue of the victim.

He explained that during the clearance operation, security forces tracked the suspects to Zinda forest, located behind the Nigerian Army Estate in Kurudu, where they engaged the bandits in a fierce exchange of gunfire.

Ajao confirmed that three wanted criminals, including their leader Abdullahi Umar, also known as “Duna,” alongside his associates, Buba Ahmadi (alias “Killer”) and Habi Sule (alias “aMai Kudu”), were killed in the shootout.

He said operatives recovered two AK-49 rifles with marked breach numbers, two magazines containing seven live rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, two Itel phones, ATM cards from Access and Wema banks, lighters, charms, animal horns, and ₦10,000 in cash.

Further investigation, the CP revealed, showed that “Duna” had orchestrated numerous kidnappings in Karu, Guzape, Kpobi, the Army Estate in Kurudu, and several parts of Nasarawa State.

“The gang’s planned attempt to kidnap a resident of Federal Housing Estate, Karu, on 18th September 2025 at about 2200hrs, was successfully foiled due to the proactive raid and dislodgement of their camp. And proactive anti-kidnapping and anti-banditry patrols are ongoing across border communities and identified hotspots,” he said.

Ajao also disclosed that two vigilantes were injured when armed men attacked Kpobi village near Kpaduma III in Guzape on September 15, 2025, around 9:15 p.m.
