Ganduje’s reforms behind Kano’s top performance in 2025 NECO SSCE– Ex-Commissioner

Former Kano State Commissioner for Education, Muhammad Sanusi Kiru, has attributed the state’s outstanding performance in the recently released 2025 National Examinations Council (NECO) Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) to reforms implemented during the administration of ex-Governor Abdullahi Ganduje.
PlatinumPost reports that Kano students topped the national chart in English and Mathematics, according to NECO’s results released on Wednesday.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, Kiru said the achievement was not the result of short-term efforts but rather the outcome of long-term investments made between 2015 and 2023 under Ganduje’s leadership.
He cautioned against crediting the success solely to the current administration, stressing that Ganduje’s policies laid the foundation for the progress being celebrated today.
The statement reads: “I warmly congratulate the outstanding students of Kano State on their exceptional performance in the recently released National Examinations Council (NECO) results, which has placed Kano State at the top of the national standings in English and Mathematics.
“While I celebrate this remarkable achievement, I deem it pertinent to place this success within its proper historical and developmental context. The triumph in today’s NECO results is not a sudden occurrence attributable to short-term governmental interventions alone. It is, rather, a testament to the solid foundational investments made in the education sector during the administration of Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje from 2015 to 2023.
“The excellence exhibited by Kano State students reflects the outcomes of years of concerted efforts in strengthening basic and secondary education. The robust grounding provided to students during the Ganduje era — through improvements in educational infrastructure, teacher capacity building, and support systems — laid the necessary bedrock for these students to attain such heights in their examinations.
“I find it imperative to observe that attributing this success predominantly to the current government’s tenure would be overlooking the substantial and impactful strides made in Kano’s educational landscape between 2015 and 2023 under Dr. Ganduje’s leadership. Educational achievements of this magnitude are typically the culmination of long-term strategies and foundational strengths, pointing to the enduring impact of Ganduje’s administration’s massive investments in the education sector.
“I applaud the students on their impressive accomplishments and recognize the collective endeavors of educators, parents, and the preceding governmental initiatives that have synergistically contributed to this success. This milestone should galvanize continued and enhanced focus on fortifying education in Kano State for the benefit of future generations.”
