JUST IN: Staff jump from storey building as fire breaks out at UBA Lagos Island branch

A branch of the United Bank for Africa (UBA) on Lagos Island was engulfed by fire on Tuesday, sparking panic among staff and passersby.

Although the exact cause of the fire is yet to be confirmed, viral videos circulating on social media show some staff members desperately attempting to escape through the windows of the storey building. In one of the clips, employees could be seen trying to jump to safety as thick smoke filled the premises.

As of the time of filing this report, emergency officials had not released an official statement on the incident.

However, efforts to contain the blaze were already underway, with responders reportedly working to prevent the fire from spreading to nearby structures.
