How UK based doctor abandoned operation midway for sexual encounter with nurse

A UK medical tribunal has heard shocking allegations against Dr. Suhail Anjum, a consultant anaesthetist at Tameside Hospital, Greater Manchester, accused of abandoning a patient mid-surgery to engage in a sexual act with a nurse.

According to evidence presented, Dr. Anjum told colleagues he needed a “comfort break” during a procedure and asked another doctor to temporarily monitor the patient. Instead, he reportedly went to another theatre, where he engaged in a sexual encounter with a colleague identified as Nurse C.

The incident came to light when another nurse unexpectedly walked in and found the pair in a compromising position. The whistleblowing nurse immediately reported the matter, describing the discovery as “shocking.”

Andrew Molloy, representing the GMC, said: “It is right to say that no harm came to the patient when Dr Anjum was absent from the theatre and the procedure went on without further incident.”

Dr. Anjum admitted the allegations, describing his behaviour as “shameful.”

He told the tribunal: “It was quite shameful, to say the least. I only have myself to blame.”

He apologised, saying: “I offer my sincere apologies to everyone involved and I want the opportunity to put this right.” He added the incident followed a “stressful time” for his family.

The hearing continues Friday.
