Suspected herdsmen attack Benue community kill 1 injure many

Residents of Tse Akor Gbatse village in Nyiev Council Ward, Guma Local Government Area of Benue State, were thrown into mourning on Saturday following a violent attack believed to have been carried out by suspected armed herdsmen.

According to reports, the assailants stormed the community in broad daylight, killing a farmer and leaving members of his family, along with several others, injured. The assault also led to confusion and fear, as a number of villagers were reported missing in the aftermath.

Community sources revealed that the invasion came just days after locals had raised an alarm over looming threats of an attack. Sadly, their fears were confirmed when the gunmen unleashed violence on the peaceful farming settlement.

They alleged that the assailants had camped at Rukubi in Doma LGA of Nasarawa State before launching the attack.

According to the source, the assailants killed Tachia Akor, while his wife, Mrs. Tsetim, and others sustained injuries. Some of the injured are receiving treatment at Adi Hospital in Daudu town.

The source added that many residents had fled their homes, leaving parts of the community deserted.

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Udeme Edet, confirmed the incident.

“Yes, we were informed. Our men are already on it. Immediately we got the information, personnel were deployed, and they are already investigating the matter. Normalcy has also returned to the area,” he said.
