Nigerian gov appoints 1,200 aides

The Ogun State Government has announced the appointment of 1,200 political assistants to serve as change agents and drive civic engagement across the state.
In a statement released in Abeokuta, the governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Strategy, Kayode Akinmade, explained that the initiative is part of the governor’s commitment to deepening democratic participation and ensuring wider access to the dividends of democracy.
Akinmade further described the appointments as a strategic move to strengthen governance at the grassroots, noting that the assistants will help foster closer ties between government and citizens in every community.
“The assistants five from each of the 236 wards in Ogun State will ensure greater local participation in governance, effectively bridging the gap between the grassroots and the state government” he said
“The newly appointed political assistants are to support the delivery of democratic dividends, articulate the needs of their respective wards, and communicate these needs to the state government.
“They are also expected to provide accurate feedback from the government to the wards and vice versa”.
The Special Adviser emphasized that this initiative fulfills Governor Abiodun’s electoral promise to carry every ward along in his administration’s development programs and to run an all-inclusive government that values the people’s inputs in shaping policies and initiatives.
The Ogun State Government urged the new appointees to contribute significantly to the growth and development of their wards, local governments, and the state at large.
