Nigerian actress, Joke Silva, loses brother

Renowned Nollywood actress, Joke Silva, has been thrown into mourning following the death of her elder brother, John Olabiyi Silva, who died on August 29, 2025, at the age of 72.

The actress broke the news in a heartfelt Instagram post on Thursday, where she paid tribute to her late sibling.

“With acceptance of God’s Sovereign will, we announce the call to the glory of my dear brother, John Olabiyi Silva …long John Silva…Bros B…Uncle B…. my easy go lucky brother. Rest in peace. January 22nd 1953-August 29th, 2025,” she wrote.

Silva’s loss comes at a time when she has been navigating other personal challenges, particularly caring for her husband, veteran actor Olu Jacobs, who has been living with dementia in recent years.

The announcement quickly drew an outpouring of condolence messages from colleagues, fans, and well-wishers.

Although not a public figure, John Olabiyi Silva was fondly known by family and friends through nicknames such as “Long John Silva,” “Bros B,” and “Uncle B,” a reflection of the love and warmth he inspired in those close to him.
