Police in Ondo State have arrested a man, Eze Amadi, for allegedly murdering his younger brother, Otu Ifeanyi, during a dispute over money.

Amadi, who was paraded alongside 99 other suspects in Akure, the state capital, was said to have been caught while attempting to dispose of his brother’s body.

The Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, told reporters that the incident was reported by a resident, Oluwafemi Oladipupo, on August 26.

According to him, “on 26th August, 2025 at about 3pm, one Oluwafemi Oladipupo of Paragon Street, Kajola, reported at Kajola Divisional Headquarters that he observed a blue plastic drum in front of his residence, tied at the mouth with a black rope.

“Upon inspection, the lifeless body of one Otu Ifeanyi, aged 18 years, who was later identified as the younger brother of the suspect, was discovered inside the drum. The drum was being transported on a motorcycle by one Eze Elechi Amadi ‘m’. While attempting to convey the drum to an unknown location for disposal, it fell off the motorcycle.”

Lawal explained that the suspect was immediately apprehended. “During interrogation, he confessed to having killed his younger brother over a financial dispute, alleging that the deceased had unlawfully transferred N20,000.00 from his bank account,” the commissioner said.

He added that the body had been deposited in the mortuary while investigations continue, noting that Amadi would be charged in court once the probe is concluded.

The commissioner also revealed that the other suspects paraded were linked to crimes ranging from murder and armed robbery to cultism, kidnapping, drug offences, and theft.

Lawal commended residents of the state for assisting security operatives with timely information that led to the arrests.
