DSS slams charges against Ansaru terrorist group s leaders

The Department of State Services (DSS) has formally lined up charges against two detained leaders of the Ansaru terrorist network, identified as Abu Baraa and Mahmuda.

A top security source revealed the move to counter-insurgency analyst Zagazola Makama on Friday, confirming that the pair are being prosecuted under Nigeria’s anti-terrorism legislation.

According to the source, the charges cover a range of offences including directing a terrorist organisation, financing its activities, recruitment, and orchestrating violent operations across the country.

The DSS, the source added, has accelerated its investigations to pave the way for swift prosecution.

This follows directives from the Director-General, who stressed adherence to professionalism, justice, and human rights in handling terrorism-related cases.

The suspects are expected to be arraigned before the Federal High Court in Abuja in the coming days.
