Biden seen with large head bandage after cancer surgery

Former United States President, Joe Biden, has undergone surgery to treat skin cancer, his office confirmed this week, after recent images showed him with a sizable wound on his head.

A spokesperson said the 82-year-old had Mohs surgery, a procedure that removes thin layers of cancerous tissue until no abnormal cells remain. The type of skin cancer involved has not been disclosed.

Footage aired Thursday on Inside Edition captured Biden leaving a church service in Rehoboth Beach over Labor Day weekend, the fresh wound visible on his scalp. The video also showed him appearing frail as he greeted people outside the service.

Just a day earlier, Biden was seen at a local ice cream shop wearing a baseball cap that appeared to cover the bandaged area.

The operation echoes a similar experience for former First Lady Jill Biden, who underwent the same procedure in 2023 to remove several lesions, including one near her right eye.

Biden’s health has been under close watch in recent years. In May, it was revealed he had been diagnosed with Stage 4 prostate cancer that had spread to his bones. “Cancer touches us all,” Biden wrote on social media at the time. “Like so many of you, Jill and I have learned that we are strongest in the broken places.”

Doctors classified his prostate cancer as highly aggressive, with a Gleason score of 9 and a Grade Group 5 — the most severe classification.

In 2023, Biden also had a basal cell carcinoma removed from his chest. Though later declared cancer-free, he has remained under ongoing medical care.
