NAF airstrikes eliminate over 15 terrorists in Sambisa forest

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has confirmed the elimination of over 15 terrorists during precision airstrikes conducted around the Sambisa Forest in Borno State.

In a statement released on Thursday, the NAF Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Vice Marshal Ehimen Ejodame, said the strikes were executed on Wednesday under Operation Hadin Kai.

According to him, the operation specifically targeted a terrorist hideout located west of Zuwa, following credible intelligence reports and confirmatory surveillance that established the presence of insurgents.

He said the enclave was found to be harbouring fighters and commanders linked to recent attacks in the Bitta axis.

According to him, the strikes destroyed key structures and dealt heavy blows to the insurgents.

Ejodame said the operation reflected NAF’s professionalism and commitment to assisting ground troops and protecting Nigerians.

He added that each successful strike pushes the country closer to lasting peace by dismantling terrorist networks.

On Tuesday, troops under Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK), with support from the air component and local security outfits, reportedly killed more than 20 insurgents during a week-long operation in the north-east region.

The offensive took place between August 23 and 30 in Gujba, Gubio, Sabsawa, Whumtakum, Mandarari, Gajigana, Konduga, Banki, and Loskori Kura in Borno and Yobe states.

The troops also arrested several collaborators and suppliers linked to the insurgents, and detonated improvised explosive devices (IEDs) during clearance operations.
