Identities of couple chased to death by Abuja touts revealed

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has identified the couple who lost their lives in Wednesday’s tragic accident along Nnamdi Azikwe Way, Mabushi, Abuja, as Emeka Ehekweme and his wife.
Police also confirmed that two touts, commonly called Agbero, died in the chaos that followed the accident.
The fatal incident occurred under the Mabushi Bridge after Ehekweme, his wife, and their son were reportedly attacked by three hoodlums. The confrontation ended in a crash that claimed multiple lives.
Eyewitnesses said passers-by rushed to assist the victims but, angered by the attack, lynched one of the assailants at the scene.
In a statement on Thursday, FCT Police spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, said: “Preliminary findings indicate that a grey Toyota Highlander, registration number ABJ 206 EC, driven by one Emeka Ehekweme with his wife, was accosted by three unidentified suspects who forcefully entered the vehicle near Berger Junction, Utako. In the ensuing struggle for control of the steering, the vehicle lost control, struck another parked Mazda vehicle and somersaulted into a bridge pillar.
“The Highlander’s driver, his wife, and two of the assailants were confirmed dead on arrival at the National Hospital, while a third suspect is currently receiving treatment. The Mazda driver, one Suleman Mohammed, sustained no life-threatening injuries.”
The police said investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident are ongoing. The command extended condolences to the bereaved families and assured the public of a thorough probe.
