Cleaner who returned N4.8m rewarded with N2.5m gift

Faiza Abdulkadir, a cleaner who recently returned N4.8 million mistakenly credited to her bank account, has received a generous N2.5 million gift from a “good Samaritan.”
The cheque was presented to her on Monday in Maiduguri by Aisha Muhammad Aisami, president of the Da’awah Wal Irshaad Women Organisation in Borno State.
According to Aisami, the anonymous donor came across Faiza’s story in Daily Trust and was inspired to reward her honesty by reaching out to the organization to locate her.
“We, therefore, present this cheque of N2.5 million to Faiza Abdulkadir, on behalf of our donor, who saw what she did, when somebody mistakenly sent N4.8 million into her account and returned the money.”
“Daily Trust newspaper carried the story, and it’s widely spread and the donor saw it. He is not from Borno State, he only read the story and sent the donations through us.
“May Allah SWT make her steadfast in what she did and reward the donor and all those who donated to her,” she said
Responding, Faiza thanked the donor and the Da’awa organization that facilitated the donation, while calling on people to fear God and stick to the boundaries.
“If you fear God, anything that doesn’t belong to you would not attract you. We should always prepare for eternal life, hereafter, not to be deceived by the worldly gains that are temporary,” she said.
Fauza is working at University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, and survives on N30,000 salary, taking the responsibility of her five children and aged mother.
Earlier, Borno State first Lady, Dr Falmata Babagana Zulum, presented Faiza a cash gift of N1millon, with food items and vocational skills equipment from the state government.
Also, the state Commissioner of Women Affairs, Zuwaira Gambo, described her action as very rare considering her financial challenges.
“It’s a rare and inspiring display of integrity, which shows that honesty is not determined by wealth but character,” said Gambo.
Seven days ago, Faiza, a resident of Gwange, Zawiyya of Sheikh Ibrahim Saleh, received the N4.8 million alert mistakenly transferred to her account from an unknown person in Kebbi State.
The money owner reached out to her and provided his account details and Faiza went to the bank and credited his account.
Faiza said she decided to return the money because of the fear of God.
“The money does not belong to me. I returned it to have a peace of mind, and avoid God’s punishment on the day of judgement,” she said.
Faiza revealed that she spent three days completing the bank process before she finally sent the money to the owner.
“I was restless throughout these three days. In fact, I couldn’t eat well throughout the process, until the day I finally transferred the money to the owner,” she said.
Banks officials and residents described Faiza as a very honest woman who lived on N30,000 salary.
