Peter Obi : Don’t allow Facebook ‘deceive’ you, Shehu Sani tells Adeyanju, other online activists

Former Kaduna Central Senator, Shehu Sani, has cautioned social media commentators not to mistake Facebook’s familiar prompt , ‘What’s on your mind?’, as a licence to post anything that could land them in court.

Sani’s remarks on Saturday follow moves by Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, to institute legal action against social media influencer and lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, over alleged defamation.

He said: “Peter Obi appears to be taking steps to take Deji to court for defamation.

“Luckily, Deji is a lawyer and will not spend much to defend himself.The former Kaduna Governor while on seat took me to 5 Kaduna High Courts while i was in the Senate.

“My advice to young comrades on social media is not to be afraid of expressing your views  but always keep money to pay your lawyers in case you are dragged to the courts.

“Some people slander and insult others online because they don’t know the cost of going to court.Lawyers are learned men but not cheap men. Most rights groups will say they will defend you but will disappear the moment the case drags on  in court.

“The facebook usually asks “what’s on your mind”. It’s not everything that is in that your mind that you should post.”
