Gov Okpebholo rushes over 10 highway crash victims to hospital

Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, personally intervened on Saturday to rescue more than ten victims of a serious crash along the Benin–Auchi highway.

The governor, who was travelling with his convoy to Irrua in Esan Central Local Government Area, met a major gridlock shortly after the bypass and stepped down from his vehicle to assess the cause.

At the scene, he found several injured passengers, some bleeding heavily, as onlookers watched helplessly.

Moved by their condition, Governor Okpebholo instructed his aides to deploy two of his security Hilux vehicles to ferry the victims to a hospital for immediate treatment. He supervised as the wounded — including a woman with severe injuries — were carried into the vehicles and transported for urgent medical attention.

Eyewitnesses said the accident occurred when the driver of a white Toyota Venza (registration number ABUJA, GWA 50 AW) drove against traffic, smashing into three fully loaded commercial minibuses. The collision left scores hurt and caused a massive traffic jam.

The governor stayed at the scene until he confirmed that the injured were safely evacuated under escort from another security vehicle before resuming his journey. His prompt action earned applause from motorists, residents, and sympathisers.
