EEDC announces 2 day power outage in 2 states

The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC)  has notified residents of Anambra State and parts of Enugu State of an impending two-day power outage scheduled for Sunday and Monday.

In a statement issued on Saturday by Emeka Ezeh, Group Head, Corporate Communications at EEDC, the company explained that the planned blackout would enable the Transmission Company of Nigeria to carry out urgent repairs at the 330kV switchyard in Awada, Anambra State.

According to the statement, the maintenance team will be replacing defective overhead porcelain insulators, with the outage expected to run daily from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., beginning August 31 and ending September 1, 2025.

The notice, titled “Planned outage in Anambra State and parts of Enugu State,” informed customers in Anambra as well as Oji River and nearby communities in Enugu of the expected disruption.

“The outage is necessary to allow the Transmission Company of Nigeria maintenance crew to replace faulty overhead porcelain insulators at the 330kV switchyard in Awada. As a result of this maintenance, electricity supply will be interrupted in the affected areas during the specified times. We regret the inconvenience this may cause and kindly ask for our customers’ understanding,” the statement read.

Ezeh added that the exercise is aimed at improving and enhancing the quality of electricity supply once completed.
