Brake failure : Chaos as truck smashes into vehicles at Lagos junction

A major accident at the Berger Bridge T-Junction in Epe, Lagos, left several commuters injured and caused hours of traffic disruption on Thursday.
Witnesses said the crash occurred when a truck lost control after its brakes failed, plowing into vehicles waiting at the intersection. The collision damaged a tricycle and four cars beyond recognition.
Mr. Ademola, who was at the scene, recalled: “The driver kept shouting that his brake had failed. Before we knew it, the truck had already crashed into the tricycle and several cars. People were screaming and running everywhere.”
Mrs. Kehinde, another passerby, described the moment as terrifying: “The tricycle was badly crushed, and several people were injured. Thank God no life was lost.”
Emergency responders from the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), and local security groups arrived swiftly to treat victims and manage the gridlock.
Authorities confirmed that no fatalities were recorded, though many sustained injuries requiring hospital treatment. The accident left traffic at a standstill for hours as rescue efforts continued.
