Niger Delta youths protest at NNPCL Headquarters demand GCEO s resignation
Protest

Abuja witnessed a dramatic protest on Wednesday as a group of Niger Delta youth leaders stormed the headquarters of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL).

The protesters, who arrived at the Towers as early as 6 a.m., blocked both entrance and exit gates, effectively shutting down free movement in and out of the premises. Their action created tense scenes, with staff and visitors stranded outside the building.

Armed with banners and placards, the youths chanted solidarity songs as they marched along Herbert Macaulay Way in the Central Business District.

One of the banners displayed by the group demanded the resignation of the company’s Group Chief Executive Officer, Engr. Bashir Ojulari, over allegations of corruption and mismanagement.

They also called for the appointment of an indigene of the Niger Delta region as the GCEO of the NNPCL.

Security agents, including men of the Nigeria Police Force, were at the scene to ensure that traffic was diverted to one lane of the dual carriageway leading to the NNPCL towers.

Workers were forced to park their cars far away from the gates of the Towers due to the protest.
