The Kebbi State Police Command has confirmed that three suspected kidnappers were shot dead during an exchange of gunfire in Shanga Local Government Area. Officers also recovered an AK-47 rifle, a magazine, and seven rounds of live ammunition at the scene.

CSP Nafiu Abubakar, spokesperson for the command, said the Divisional Police Officer in Shanga led a joint operation with vigilantes after receiving intelligence about criminals planning an attack.

“Intelligence received revealed that a gang of suspected kidnappers was sighted in the nearby forest along Tungargiwa/Saminaka road, planning on how to kidnap commuters flying the road,” Abubakar stated.

In a separate incident, gunmen stormed Kesan community in the same local government area and abducted a 25-year-old man, Abdulmumini Alhaji Ahmadu. Security teams trailed the gang and successfully rescued the victim.

“During the rescue operation, the victim was shot on his left leg by the suspects and he is being treated at a medical facility in the area,” Abubakar added.
