Former Governor Nasir El-Rufai has led the entire Kaduna State chapter of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) into a merger with the African Democratic Congress (ADC), marking a major shift in the state’s political landscape.

The decision was unveiled at a coalition meeting in Kaduna on Saturday, bringing together party leaders, stakeholders, and representatives from various political groups.

According to a statement signed by Hon. Darius Kurah, Publicity Secretary of the Kaduna State Coalition, the session was chaired by El-Rufai and featured key figures including Hon. Ja’afar Mohammed Sani, ADC Vice Chairman (North West); Elder Patrick Ambut, ADC State Chairman; Mallam Bashir Saidu, ADC Leader in Kaduna; former commissioners; SDP executives; and other political actors.

Speakers at the gathering hailed the development as a defining step toward forging a stronger and more united political front in Kaduna.

El-Rufai stressed that the coalition’s priority is fostering unity in pursuit of progressive governance and inclusive development. In his remarks, Ja’afar Mohammed Sani described the SDP’s move as “a new dawn for credible alternative leadership in Kaduna.”

Elder Patrick Ambut formally welcomed the SDP members into the ADC, pledging their full integration into existing party structures. Mallam Bashir Saidu added that the coalition is “not just a merger of structures, but a convergence of ideologies committed to people-centered governance.”

As part of the resolutions, the ADC National Working Committee (NWC) will immediately set up a Membership Registration Committee. The state chapter, alongside local government and ward committees, is expected to begin registering new members and revalidating existing ones.

The meeting concluded on a note of optimism, with attendees vowing to reinforce the party’s grassroots base and position the coalition for future political battles.
