Suspected thief cheats death during mob attack in Lagos

A suspected thief narrowly escaped being lynched in Lagos after allegedly injuring a resident with a pair of scissors during an attempted theft.
According to Lagos State Police Command spokesperson CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the incident occurred on August 21, 2025, in the Iju area when the suspect was caught stealing barbed wire from a perimeter fence.
“At about 8:40 p.m. on August 21, 2025, Umar Biliaminu was caught while carting away barbed wire on a perimeter fence in Iju area of Lagos State. He injured one of the people trying to apprehend him with a scissors. This prompted mob action on him.
“Patrol officers from Iju Police Division raced to the scene and rescued him. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend those behind this barbaric act of jungle justice.
“Say NO to jungle justice!” Hundeyin said in a post on X on Saturday.
