Ex-Obi’s running mate, Baba-Ahmed, blasts ADC coalition, says they’re deceiving Nigerians

Datti Baba-Ahmed, the 2023 running mate to Pater Obi, former Labour Party’s presidential candidate, , has accused the African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition of misleading Nigerians, describing its agenda as deceptive.

Speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Friday, Baba-Ahmed dismissed any suggestion of aligning with the group.

When asked about his position on the ADC coalition, he said, “They are deceiving us.”

Baba-Ahmed reiterated his loyalty to the Labour Party and former running mate Peter Obi, making it clear he had no interest in switching camps.

“I am a Labour Party man, for God’s sake. I am Peter Obi’s man. I still want Peter Obi to come back to the Labour Party and contest in 2027,” he declared.

Turning to the conduct of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Baba-Ahmed called for a leadership overhaul to ensure competence and integrity ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He accused INEC’s current leadership of violating constitutional provisions during the 2023 presidential poll, warning that electoral malpractice is at the heart of Nigeria’s challenges.

“Not somebody who clearly read what the constitution provides—25 per cent in at least two-thirds of states of the Federation and the FCT—but went ahead to breach it and put Nigeria in what it is today.The electoral fraud is right now the single most important fact to be addressed in our life as a nation, even beyond insecurity. Insecurity is derived from electoral fraud. Corruption is aggravated by the kind of electoral fraud that we have,” he said.

Reacting to Baba-Ahmed’s comments, ADC National Publicity Secretary Bolaji Abdullahi dismissed the criticism, saying, “When he begins to make sense, we will respond.”
