The Nigerian Air Force says it has eliminated more than 35 terrorists in coordinated air raids along the Nigeria–Cameroon frontier.

The operation took place on Saturday after insurgents attempted to ambush ground troops in the region.

According to a statement from the Air Force, “acting on multiple intelligence from several sources, the Air Component executed precision strikes in successive passes, engaging the terrorists and neutralising more than 35 fighters at four identified assembly areas.”

The force said it re-established contact with soldiers who had come under threat, and they confirmed that “the situation around their location had been stabilised.”

Officials added that the operation had “intensified efforts” to maintain control of the battlefield and “deny terrorists freedom of action.”

Although Nigeria’s 16-year insurgency has declined from its 2015 peak, attacks have been increasing since early this year.

The Air Force said the latest strikes reaffirm its commitment to supporting ground forces “while also disrupting terrorist logistics and movement corridors along the north east border regions.”
