I escaped the attack Boko Haram s leader refutes claim of his death in airstrikes

Boko Haram leader, Ibrahim Bakoura Doro, also known as Abu Oumaimah, has denied reports of his death, declaring that he survived a recent military operation targeting the insurgent group.

Just hours earlier, authorities in Niger Republic had announced that Bakoura was killed alongside several top commanders in precision airstrikes conducted on August 15 in Korongol, Kournawa, and Shilawa.

The Nigerien Armed Forces (FAN) said the operation destroyed Boko Haram logistical hubs, neutralised dozens of fighters, and eliminated high-ranking insurgent leaders,  including Bakoura, described as a key figure within the group’s chain of command.

Niger’s Head of State, Gen. Abdurahamane Tiani, hailed the mission as a major breakthrough, identifying Bakoura as one of the masterminds allegedly plotting to destabilise the country.

But an intercepted communication obtained on Saturday paints a different picture. According to security analyst Zagozola Makama, Bakoura was heard telling his commanders that he had seen the news of his supposed death spreading on social media.

He acknowledged the airstrikes took place but insisted, “I’m not dead, I escaped the attack.”
