 NNPP wins Kano by election as APC sweeps Kaduna Assembly seats

The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has triumphed in the Bagwai/Shanono State Constituency by-election, while the All Progressives Congress (APC) secured victories in two Kaduna State Assembly races.

Announcing the results on Sunday, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Returning Officer, Prof. Hassan Shitu, declared NNPP’s Ali Alhassan winner of the Kano poll after polling 16,198 votes to beat his closest challenger from the APC, who scored 5,347 votes.

The seat became vacant following the death of the former lawmaker representing the constituency in the Kano State House of Assembly.

In Kaduna State, INEC declared Alhaji Dahiru Umar-Sani of the APC as the new representative for Basawa Constituency. According to Prof. Nasiru Rabiu of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, who served as the Returning Officer, Umar-Sani garnered 10,996 votes, defeating Muazu Danyaro of the PDP with 5,499 votes. DanBala Usman of the SDP came third with 811 votes, while Mahmuda Almustapha of the ADC polled 146.
“Dahiru Umar-Sani of the APC, having satisfied the requirements of the law, is hereby declared winner and returned elected,’’ Rabiu said.

Similarly, INEC named Isa Mohammed (Ihamo) of the APC winner of the Zaria Kewaye Constituency election. Prof. Balarabe Abdullahi of ABU Zaria, who announced the result, said Mohammed polled 26,613 votes to defeat Nuhu Muazu of the SDP with 5,721 votes, while PDP’s Mahmud Wappa finished third with 5,331 votes.

“Isa Haruna Mohammed of the APC, having satisfied the requirements of the law, is hereby declared winner and returned elected,’’ Abdullahi said.
