(JUST IN) By-election: PDP wins Reps’ seat

In the early hours of Sunday, electoral officials announced the outcome of a tightly contested by-election for Ibadan North Federal Constituency in Oyo State.

The Returning Officer, Prof. Abiodun Oluwadare, declared that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate secured 18,404 votes, far ahead of his closest challenger from the All Progressives Congress (APC), who garnered 8,312. Other contenders from the African Democratic Congress, All Progressives Grand Alliance and Zenith Labour Party received 88, 40 and 18 votes respectively.

“Oyekunle of PDP having satisfied the requirement of the law is hereby declare the winner of the election,” Oluwadare said.

The election was held to fill the House of Representatives seat left vacant by the passing of Rep. Olaide Akinremi of the APC on July 10.
