Many feared dead as tanker explosion rocks Kaduna

Several people have reportedly died following a devastating tanker explosion in Dan Magaji, Zaria, Kaduna State, on Monday morning.

The incident occurred around 8:30 a.m. near the Rochas Foundation School along the Kaduna–Kano expressway bypass. It involved two fuel-laden tankers and two passenger-filled Volkswagen Golf cars.

Eyewitnesses told security analyst Zagazola Makama that the crash triggered five loud explosions, igniting a massive fire that engulfed the vehicles. Thick black smoke billowed over the highway, causing panic and obstructing traffic.

“All the occupants of the cars died on the spot, except one driver who survived but sustained severe burns,” a witness said.

Emergency services and security personnel have cordoned off the area, advising motorists to avoid the route while rescue and recovery efforts continue.
