President Bola Tinubu has submitted fresh nominations to fill key positions at the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), setting the stage for a new phase of leadership at the regulatory body.

The nominations, announced on Thursday through a statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, come as part of efforts to strengthen oversight in the power sector.

Engr. Abdullahi Garba Ramat has been nominated to serve as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of NERC. Also named are Mr. Abubakar Yusuf, proposed as Commissioner for Consumer Affairs, and Dr. Fouad Olayinka Animashun, slated for the role of Commissioner for Finance and Management Services.

The statement read in part, “President Bola Tinubu has nominated Engr. Abdullahi Garba Ramat as the new Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC). Engr Ramat, 39, is an electrical engineer and administrator, with a PhD in Strategic Management, among other qualifications.

“President Tinubu also nominated two commissioners for the NERC. They are Mr Abubakar Yusuf, Commissioner of Consumer Affairs and Dr Fouad Olayinka Animashun, Commissioner of Finance and Management Services. All nominations are subject to Senate confirmation,” the statement partly read.

To ensure continuity at the commission, the statement further noted that Ramat will assume office in an acting capacity while awaiting Senate confirmation, in line with legal provisions.

“President Tinubu urged the new appointees to use their knowledge and experience to discharge their functions and work assiduously to advance the administration’s power sector vision,” the statement added.
