Nigerian university’s student shot dead  during sign-out party

A student of one of the universities in the South-West part of the country, Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, has died after being shot during a sign-out celebration, according to the Oyo State Police Command.

According to a report by security analyst Zagozola Zagazola , the victim, Babalola Ishola, was discovered lifeless by the roadside around 5:38 p.m. on Wednesday.

Sources disclosed that his body was found after authorities received a report about a male corpse lying unattended near the road.

A security team was promptly dispatched to the location, where the identity of the victim was confirmed following a search of his belongings.

The Dean of Student Affairs at LAUTECH has verified that Babalola was enrolled at the institution.

His remains have since been transferred to the mortuary at the LAUTECH University Teaching Hospital for preservation.

In response to the incident, the police Monitoring Unit carried out a sting operation, resulting in the arrest of sixteen individuals believed to be linked to the shooting.

Authorities say investigations are still underway to determine the events that led to the student’s death.
