A devastating tragedy struck Dankama village in Kaita Local Government Area of Katsina State, as a mother and five of her children lost their lives when their home collapsed during a heavy downpour in the early hours of Monday.

Sadly, the mother and five children died on the spot. Four other occupants of the building sustained varying degrees of injuries and were rushed to a nearby hospital for urgent medical attention.

Speaking with newsmen the bereaved father, Muhammad Sani, said he was away from home when the wall fell on his family.

“This happened to about ten people, but sadly six didn’t make it. Right now, four are in the hospital receiving treatment,” he told reporters.

The names of the deceased were given as Mariya Sani, 45, (the mother), Mujahid Sani, 20, Zahariya Sani, 18, Hauwa Sani, 15, Amira Sani, and Nura Sani, 5 years old.

The tragedy has sparked outpouring of grief from friends, relatives, and the wider community, many of whom have been trooping to the Dankama residence to offer condolences.

Despite the devastating loss, Muhammad Sani expressed gratitude to God and prayed for the souls of his wife and children.

“I see this as a will of Allah’s. May He grant them eternal rest,” he said.
