A tragic incident unfolded along the Gusau–Funtua highway in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State on Monday, August 4, 2025, as armed bandits ambushed a moving vehicle, killing one staff member of Union Bank and abducting another.

According to reports, the attack took place at approximately 2:40 p.m. in Kucheri village, where the assailants opened fire on a GAC SUG vehicle with registration number BDG 251 HZ, which was conveying bank personnel.

According to security analyst, Zagazola Makama, the vehicle was conveying two bank staff identified as Zakari Leo, the regional manager of Union Bank Plc, and Muhammad Sani Suleman, both attached to the Yakubu Gowon Way branch of the bank in Kaduna State.

A team of security forces were swiftly mobilized to the scene. The surrounding bushes were combed, and Mr Leo was found alive, while Mr Suleman, who sustained gunshot injuries, was rushed to the General Hospital in Tsafe.

He was later referred to the Ahmed Sani Yariman Bakura Specialist Hospital in Gusau but d!ed before reaching the facility.

Sources said that the deceased’s body had been released to the management of Union Bank Plc, Gusau branch, for burial.
