Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, etched their name deeper into the annals of African sports history on Sunday after defeating Mali 78-64 to claim their fifth consecutive AfroBasket Women’s Championship title.

The high-stakes final, held in front of an electrified crowd, saw Mali come out strong in the opening quarter, stunning fans by taking an early lead with a 26-21 first-quarter win. Determined to end Nigeria’s dominant run, the Malian side applied relentless pressure in the early stages.

But true to their championship pedigree, D’Tigress responded with grit and composure, bouncing back in the second quarter to even the playing field with a 20-15 win. That comeback lit a fire under the Nigerian squad, who never looked back.

In the third quarter, D’Tigress solidified their lead with another 20-15 victory, showcasing smart plays, sharp shooting, and strong defense. By the final quarter, the Nigerian ladies had found their rhythm, closing out the game in style with a decisive 17-8 finish.
