Nigerian gov orders closure of radio station over alleged incitement

One of the governors in Nigeria has ordered the immediate shutdown of a local radio station accused of broadcasting content that could trigger unrest.
The decision was announced during a meeting of the state’s All Progressives Congress (APC) caucus held in Minna, where officials discussed concerns over the station’s operations.
Governor Umaru Bago, speaking at the session, directed that Badeggi FM cease operations, accusing the station of “inciting violence” and engaging in “unethical practices.” He further ordered that the station’s licence be withdrawn.
“The daily activities of the Radio station have been unethical,” the governor stated, adding that the owner had been involved in “incitement of the people against the government.”
Bago instructed the Commissioner for Homeland Security and the state Commissioner of Police to seal off the premises, stressing that security operatives should profile the station’s proprietor.
“His station promotes violence,” the governor maintained.
