Dino Melaye quits PDP, gives reason

Former Kogi West Senator, Dino Melaye, has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), accusing the party of lacking the strength to dislodge All Progressives Congress (APC) from power.
In a resignation letter dated July 4, 2025, and addressed to the PDP Ward 1 Chairman in Aiyetoro Gbede, Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State, Melaye announced his withdrawal from all party activities.
“I hereby tender my resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at all levels of involvement,” the letter stated.
Explaining his decision, the former senator said, “This decision has become imperative due to the lack of potency and capacity by the party to deliver the Nigerian people from the prevailing political cankerworms that have eaten deeply into the fabric of our dear nation.”
Melaye added that after deep reflection, he could no longer, “in good conscience participate in the activities of the parties or lend my support to her agenda.”
He concluded his letter by saying, “In view of the above, please consider this as my formal withdrawal from the party and all its activities at all levels with immediate effect. Thank you for the opportunity to serve under the platform during my period of membership.”
PlatinumPost reports that Melaye is one of key Nigerian politicians that recently joined forces with others to ensure emergence of a coalition party, African Democratic Congress (ADC), which has expressed its readiness to dislodge APC from power in 2027 general elections.
