UPDATED: Tinubu rewards Super Falcons with houses, cash gifts, others for WAFCON victory

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has conferred national honours on Nigeria’s Super Falcons in recognition of their outstanding performance at the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), where they clinched their 10th continental title in Morocco.
Welcoming the victorious squad and their technical crew to the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Monday, President Tinubu applauded the team’s resilience, courage, and unwavering determination, describing their triumph as a moment of national pride and a historic achievement for the country.
In recognition of their feat, Tinubu announced several generous rewards, including a three-bedroom apartment for each of the 24 players and 11 technical crew members. He also awarded the naira equivalent of $100,000 to each player and $50,000 to each member of the technical team.
“On behalf of a grateful nation, I hereby confer on the players and the 11-man technical team the national honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON),” the President declared.
The players erupted in joy after the announcement, dancing and singing “Na our papa be this o” within the Villa premises.
During his remarks, Tinubu humorously admitted that he avoided watching the final match between Nigeria and Morocco due to anxiety, saying he didn’t want to risk high blood pressure.
Nigeria clinched their 10th WAFCON title on Saturday night with a dramatic 3-2 comeback victory against host nation Morocco, cementing their legacy as Africa’s most successful women’s football team.
