25 day power outage looms in Lagos as TCN begins major grid maintenance

Residents and business owners across Lagos should brace for a prolonged spell of inconsistent electricity, as the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) is set to begin a 25-day maintenance project on a key power line beginning Monday, July 28.

In a public notice released Friday, July 25, TCN confirmed that work on the Omotosho–Ikeja West 330kV transmission line will take place daily between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., and is expected to continue until Thursday, August 21.

The company cautioned that this planned activity could lead to “intermittent power supply and load shedding across our network due to the planned TCN outage.”

Although the notice did not specify which communities would be most affected, the Omotosho–Ikeja West line is known to supply electricity to large sections of Lagos and nearby areas. This has sparked concern among residents and businesses who rely heavily on steady electricity for daily operations.

TCN expressed regret for the disruption, urging customers to bear with them during the period of maintenance. The company emphasized that the work is essential for improving the reliability and efficiency of the national grid.

The development has left many wondering how the extended maintenance might impact economic activity in the region, especially with no alternative power measures announced as of press time.
