Tinubu approves immediate payment of Super Falcons’ allowances ahead of WAFCON final

President Bola Tinubu has authorized the immediate release of all outstanding match bonuses and allowances for Nigeria’s Super Falcons, just days before their highly anticipated Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) final against Morocco.
The announcement was made on Thursday by the Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Shehu Dikko, who confirmed that funds covering the team’s entitlements—including the final match on July 26—have been approved and disbursed for prompt payment to players, coaches, and backroom staff.
Dikko described the move as “policy in motion,” emphasizing that it reflects the administration’s renewed commitment to supporting Nigerian athletes under President Tinubu’s leadership.
“This is the kind of sports administration we are building, one rooted in dignity, trust, and shared prosperity,” Dikko said. He added that future generations would come to value the reforms being implemented in the nation’s sports sector.
The payment directive also covers Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, who are set to compete in the 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket tournament in Côte d’Ivoire. According to Dikko, the team will also benefit from increased allowances and bonuses.
He further assured that the era of delayed or disputed payments is over, noting that timely disbursements will now become the norm going forward.
