FG announces August deadline to complete major project in Kano

The Federal Government has issued a six-week deadline for the completion of the Renewed Hope City housing project in Kano.

Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmad Musa-Dangiwa, announced the timeline during an inspection tour of the site on Friday.

After evaluating the progress on ground, Musa-Dangiwa told journalists that the construction was proceeding as planned and met required standards.

“The quality of construction is satisfactory and meets the required standards. The pace of work is also commendable and on schedule,” he said.

The minister disclosed that the contractor has been directed to wrap up all remaining aspects of the project within six weeks, aiming for a commissioning date before the end of August.

“Our goal is to ensure the project is ready for commissioning by the end of August so that we can begin offering these units to interested Nigerians,” the minister said.

While noting that some slight adjustments had been made to the original plan, Musa-Dangiwa clarified that all alterations had received official approval and remained within acceptable design limits.

He also applauded the Kano State Controller of Housing for ensuring proper oversight, which he said had played a key role in maintaining the project’s momentum.

“We are highly impressed with both the quality and speed of the work. Most of the remaining tasks involve internal finishes and some external works like electrification and water reticulation,” Musa-Dangiwa added.

During the visit, the minister also examined a section of road within the site that had been damaged. He linked the issue to unauthorized use by heavy trucks, despite the road being designed for lighter vehicles.

In response, he ordered that barriers be installed to prevent further damage and instructed the contractor to fix the affected area.

“The contractor has been instructed to prevent further damage by redirecting heavy trucks. They must also repair the affected road segment before the project is delivered. It was an oversight, but we are confident they will address it,” Musa-Dangiwa said.

The minister was accompanied on the tour by Minister of State, Yusuf Abdullahi-Attah, along with senior officials from the ministry.

The Renewed Hope City project is a part of the government’s broader strategy to reduce the country’s housing shortfall and increase access to affordable homes.
