3 teenagers drown after mining in Bauchi

A tragic incident has rocked Jinkiri Village in Tirwun Ward, Bauchi Local Government Area of Bauchi State, where three teenagers lost their lives while swimming in a nearby river.
The deceased were identified as Habibu Mohammed and Abubakar Mohammed, both aged 16, and Zailani Sule, aged 14, all residents of Durum Village.
According to a preliminary investigation by the police, the teenagers had reportedly been engaged in mining activities near the river before deciding to cool off by swimming. Unfortunately, the leisure swim turned fatal.

Confirming the incident on Wednesday, Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Bauchi Command, CSP Ahmed Wakil, said the tragic incident occurred around 1pm.
He said despite immediate efforts for medical assistance, the boys were confirmed dead before arriving the hospital.
Wakil stated that an investigation has commenced into the tragic circumstances surrounding the incident.
He stressed that the remains of the teenagers were examined at the Specialist Hospital in Bauchi before being released to their families for burial.
“In light of this heartbreaking situation, the Nigeria Police Force Bauchi State Command under the able leadership of the Commissioner of Police CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, expresses its deepest condolences to the families affected.”
He further emphasised the urgent need for greater community awareness, and cautioned against water-related activities, especially during the rainy season.
The Command reaffirmed its commitment to promoting safety and awareness within the community to prevent similar incidents in the future.
