Sowore leads protest of retired police officers in Abuja over poor welfare

Former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, on Monday led a protest in Abuja alongside retired police officers demanding improved welfare and the end of the contributory pension scheme for ex-police personnel.
The protest, organized by the Nigerian Union of Retired Police Officers, began at the National Assembly complex and proceeded to the Nigeria Police Force Headquarters. The demonstrators voiced their frustrations over what they described as years of neglect and poor treatment following their service to the nation.
They described the scheme as “discriminatory” and claimed that many of their members had died as a result of poor benefits.
Meanwhile, the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) has warned against the protest, urging the aggrieved retirees to embrace dialogue instead.
According to PCRC, the demonstration was aimed at discrediting the Inspector-General of Police and the administration of President Bola Tinubu.
