How ADC outsmarted APC ahead of 2027 election Dele Momodu

Renowned journalist and political figure, Dele Momodu, has declared that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has gained the upper hand over the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Momodu, who recently left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to officially join the ADC,  said the ruling party is already anxious about the next electoral contest — but it’s too late.

Speaking during an interview on Arise News, the Ovation Magazine publisher claimed the opposition has strategically outpaced the APC.

“I don’t want to mention names but we all know what’s happening in Nigeria today except those who want to hide behind one finger like Chief Abiola used to say, ‘You cannot hide behind one finger’,” Momodu said.

Reflecting on internal struggles within the PDP, he noted the party had been weakened since 2022 by unresolved grievances following the presidential primaries.

“Since 2022, the PDP has been fighting to stay alive because those who failed the presidential election felt very bad,” he said. “I was one of those who contested and I had zero vote, but I’m proud that in 2011, I was a candidate and I had 26,000 votes nationwide. That will be attached to my resume for the rest of my life.”

Momodu added that unresolved internal rifts left the PDP incapable of functioning as a united front, and the APC, sensing an opportunity, has been eager to seize momentum heading into 2027.

“All the meetings that are supposed to be held from time to time as a political party — none could hold and the ruling party is in a hurry to contest the 2027 elections, if possible, today,” he remarked.

He further criticized the political environment, stating that while Nigerians struggle with daily hardships, the nation’s leaders remain focused on political power plays rather than developmental agendas.

“So, they drove us out. Nobody was ready to be campaigning when Nigeria itself is in disarray and Nigerians are suffering. Nobody is talking about policies or developmental projects. It’s about politics, who will be President and the President must come again from the South.”

Momodu expressed confidence in the newly formed opposition coalition and its ability to disrupt the APC’s plans.

“So, we then realised that instead of playing catch-up, we must also be on the offensive. We have decided to outplay the APC in their own game, and now they are throwing tantrums.”

He added that the ruling party is rattled by the ADC’s growing momentum.

“We all know what the APC is capable of doing…we’re going to play them with a game they do not understand. They can see that the ADC has caught them unawares. So they’re finding every means to scatter that party again, but it’s going to be impossible by the grace of Almighty God.”
