The Katsina State Government has declared Monday, July 14, 2025, a public holiday in honour of former President Muhammadu Buhari, who passed away in London on Sunday, July 13.
The announcement was made in a statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Abdullahi Faskari, who noted that the decision was made on the directive of Governor Dikko Radda.
According to the statement, the public holiday is meant to allow citizens of Katsina and well-wishers across the country to pay their last respects to the late leader, who hailed from Daura in Katsina State.
The statement noted that the holiday was intended to enable workers and residents in Katsina to join the rest of the country in mourning the loss and offering prayers for the late leader.
According to the statement, Mr Radda expressed profound condolences to the family of the late former president, the people of Katsina, and the entire nation.
“He described late Muhammadu Buhari as a great leader, a hero, a true democrat, and a patriotic elder statesman whose life was dedicated to the service of Nigeria,” the statement said.
The statement disclosed that the governor further prayed to Almighty Allah to grant mercy to the gentle soul of the late former President, forgive his shortcomings, and reward his good deeds with al-jannatul firdaus.
It explained that details regarding the burial arrangements will be communicated to the public in due course.
