Tragedy averted as RRS officers stop woman from jumping into Lagos lagoon

A potential tragedy was averted on Friday afternoon when operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) in Lagos intervened just in time to prevent an elderly woman from jumping into the lagoon from Carter Bridge.
The incident occurred around 12:20 p.m. during a routine patrol, according to a statement shared on the RRS’s official X (formerly Twitter) handle.
Spotting the woman in distress, officers immediately sprang into action and successfully prevented her suicide attempt.
She was escorted to the RRS Headquarters, where Commander CSP Shola Jejeloye spoke with her in an effort to understand the circumstances that led to the incident.
Police reported that the woman, her husband, and their 30-year-old son were offered a private setting to hold a family discussion aimed at resolving their underlying issues. Following the conversation, CSP Jejeloye provided her with words of encouragement and a monetary gift as part of the squad’s support.
The family thanked the officers for their intervention and compassion. The woman was later released into the care of her husband and son.
