Tragic crash on Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway claims 2 lives, injures 9

A fatal road accident has claimed the lives of two individuals and left nine others injured at the Tipper Garage area along the busy Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway.
According to Mr. Adekunle Ajibade, the South-West Area Commander of the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE), the accident occurred at approximately 7:40 p.m. on Monday. He confirmed the details in a statement issued to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday.
The tragic incident involved three vehicles and a total of 14 people. The vehicles in the crash included a Daf truck with registration number JJJ 144 XD, a Mazda bus (EPE 394 XP), and a tricycle (DGB 599 VC).
Ajibade said that the truck was parked on a slope at the entrance of a warehouse opposite Tipper Garage, leaving the engine running while the handbrake was applied by the driver.
He disclosed that the driver exited the truck to deliver waybill to security guards at the gate of the warehouse.
Ajibade said the truck eventually reversed onto the expressway after disengaging the handbrake, causing the accident leading to the death of two people; nine others sustained injuries, while three were unhurt.
“The corpses of victims have been deposited at the Ifo General Hospital, Ogun, while the survivors are also receiving treatment in the same hospital,” he said.
Ajibade said the rescue operation was carried out by TRACE and Federal Road Safety Corps personnel while the vehicles were removed from the road to ease the flow of traffic.
He advised motorists to reduce speed and adhere to traffic rules and regulations.
