JAMB announces UTME top scorer for 2025 FULL LIST

In a remarkable academic feat, Christian Chinedu Okeke from Anambra State has been officially declared the best-performing candidate in the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), scoring an outstanding 375 out of a possible 400.

The announcement was made by Professor Ishaq Oloyede, Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), during the 2025 Policy Meeting on Admissions into Tertiary Institutions. The event also marked the 5th edition of the National Tertiary Admissions and Performance-Merit Award (NATAP-M), which celebrates academic excellence and outstanding performance in national entrance examinations.

Closely following Okeke is Ayuba Simon-Peter John from Gombe State, who earned the second-highest score in the 2025 UTME with an impressive 374.

Five other candidates, led by Jimoh Abdulmalik Olayinka from Kwara State with a score of 373, emerged as second runners-up in this year’s highly competitive examination.

However, the celebrations around Okeke’s academic feat have been clouded by controversy.

Professor Oloyede revealed that a disturbing discovery was made during final background checks.

It was found that Okeke had previously secured admission into the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), where he was studying Medicine before being expelled for poor academic performance.

The JAMB Registrar stated that he personally contacted the Vice-Chancellor of UNN, who verbally confirmed Okeke’s expulsion but curiously failed to include those details in the official written response requested by JAMB.

In light of this, Professor Oloyede said the board has reached out to the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) and other relevant agencies, instructing that Okeke should not be indexed or recognised for any medical-related certification henceforth.

“This is a serious matter of integrity in the admission process, and appropriate measures will be taken,” Oloyede added.
