Peter Obi : I will run for president in 2027, not Atiku’s running mate

Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has made it clear he intends to contest the presidency again in 2027 and is not considering serving as a running mate to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
Speaking on Sunday Politics, a programme on Channels Television, Obi dismissed ongoing speculation about a potential alliance with Atiku of the Peoples Democratic Party.
“I’m going to contest for the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and I believe I am qualified for it,” Obi declared during the interview.
Addressing reports suggesting a possible joint ticket with Atiku, Obi said, “This is not in play; nobody has ever discussed that. People assume so many things. Nobody has ever discussed with me whether I am going to be A or B or C.”
The former Anambra State governor also reaffirmed his commitment to the Labour Party, while noting his involvement in a wider coalition of opposition parties—including the African Democratic Congress—working toward a unified effort to challenge President Bola Tinubu’s government in the next election cycle.
“I am part of the coalition which will be able to produce a president with the capacity and compassion to save this country,” he said.
