Jigawa local govt chairman dies suddenly in Kano

The chairman of Gumel Local Government Area in Jigawa State, Hon. Lawan Ya’u, has died at the age of 61.

 Ya’u passed away on the evening of Saturday, July 5, 2025, at a private hospital in Kano State, following a short illness.

A source within the family disclosed that he was taken to the hospital on Friday after suffering a suspected heart attack and, sadly, died the following day while receiving medical care.

Prior to his election as the chairman of Gumel LGA in August 2024, Ya’u was actively involved in civil society work in Jigawa State.

He leaves behind two wives and several children.

Funeral prayers are scheduled to be held on Sunday morning in Gumel, the historic town in Jigawa State.
