At least nine people were killed and four others injured in a deadly attack by Boko Haram insurgents in Malam Fatori, a community in Abadam Local Government Area of Borno State.

The state government confirmed the incident in a statement released on Saturday.

Governor Babagana Zulum, who is currently on an official trip outside the country, sent a delegation to condole with the victims’ families and offer financial support on his behalf.

“We are here at the instance of His Excellency, Governor Babagana Umara Zulum, who is out of the country on an official assignment to condole with the people of Malam Fatori over the recent unfortunate attack. He assured that the Borno State government and the military will do everything possible to secure the town,” his representative said.

Zulum emphasized the strategic importance of Malam Fatori and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to restoring peace and stability in the area. He also called on residents to remain resilient and prayerful in the face of such violence.

The governor’s message was delivered by the Commissioner for Local Government and Emirate Affairs, Sugun Mele, who praised the military for their continued bravery and efforts to protect the region.

As part of renewed security measures, the state announced plans to deploy excavators to dig defensive trenches around the local government headquarters to prevent future attacks by Boko Haram and ISWAP fighters.
